Day 18: At sea in the Pacific

At sea between Puerto Montt and
our final destination, San Antonio.

Monday 18th March 2024
The voyage north, towards our final destination, continued today. We had made up some lost time, caused by weather delays, by missing the planned stop at Chiloé Island, but we were still running behind schedule and, as we had feared, the planned stop at Valdivia also had to cancelled. Even with both of the cancelled stops, we were still going to arrive at San Antonio at midday tomorrow instead of the planned arrival time of 7.00am, because the voyage from Puerto Montt takes 48 hours non-stop and we had only left there at midday yesterday.

On the plus side, sea conditions in the Pacific were beautiful, the weather had really warmed up and we had a very pleasant day on board, starting with this wonderful sunrise.

We got some good bird spotting in too.

The route we were sailing over a 48 hour period.

Another excellect afternoon tea, keeping in the mind the special dinner planned for this evening.

The day ended with a cocktail party hosted by the captain, followed a lovely dinner.

The staff on board never fail to impress us with their excellent service. Jersey looked after us very well throughout the trip and we could look forward to seeing him again on our cruise around the Azores in May!

Jenny and Charles, another very nice couple who we had travelled with before (in Iceland).

Hotel manager, Neill and our excellent tour manager, Natalie.

Our captain, George. Apart from being responsible for the ship, he kept us all well informed and had plenty of entertaining stories to share.

The kitchen staff were given well deserved applause for their behind-the-scenes work in keeping us all fed with such delicious food.

Eber, Damon and Conrad. Three members of the brilliant expedition team.

Resident keyboard player, Florante.

After dinner, we were treated to a video presentation, by Grant, of the highlights of the trip. Everybody loved it, especially when they saw themselves in the video!
