At Sea
(Bay of Biscay and into the English Channel)

Monday 2nd May 2022

The second and final full day at sea, as we made further progress on our 791 nautical mile voyage from Figueira Da Foz to Portsmouth.

For us, it was another quiet day and we were very thankful that the notorious Bay of Biscay was completely flat!

In the evening, the Captain's Farewell cocktail party took place in the main lounge, followed by dinner in the main restaurant. We decided that we weren't going to risk either event, knowing by now that several passengers were showing symptoms of Covid-19. We found out that it was possible to have our drinks and dinner in the bar instead. Another couple, Susan and Simon, made the same decision as us and so we joined them (at a distance) in the otherwise empty bar and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

We met Susan and Simon on our previous cruise (Andalucian Odyssey). It was good to see them again on this one!

Kevin, Wendy and Neil had been working very hard since the announcement that the cruise was to be curtailed, especially in trying to rearrange everybody's onward travel plans once we got to Portsmouth. Fortunately our plans were easy to rearrange and we didn't need to bother them, but they kept smiling throughout... a professional response in a crisis and all taken in their stride!

After the dinner, Neil arranged a deck party and took on the role of DJ!
