Lisbon

Friday 29th April 2022

it was good to wake up to the familiar sight of the lovely city of Lisbon, as we were preparing to dock. For some reason, Bruce didn't feel too well today. This won't come as too much of a surprise to anybody who read the account of our day at sea yesterday. Yes, he eat too much and probably had more to drink than he would normally do. As a result, he did not have a good night. Geoff, on the other hand, was fine!

It took ages to get the gangway in place. It was supplied by the port, because the tide made it difficult to use the ship's own gangway.

The ship took on a lot of provisions here - four container loads! It was fascinating to watch the loading process.

With Bruce not feeling up to it, Geoff went off to re-explore the city (last visited in 2016) for himself. Most of our fellow passengers went on the organised excursion.

Of course, Geoff found the special shop selling Pasties de Nara and treated himself to one (or possibly two!).

While Geoff was out, Bruce felt better and decided to go out for a short stroll too,
accompanied by fellow passenger, Susan.

Geoff took quite a few photos of Lisbon's trams and tiles!

Returning to the ship, the tide had risen considerably and it now became clear why we needed a very long gangway!

Our friend (and cruise director) Neil, knowing that Bruce hadn't been feeling too well in the morning, returned from the passenger excursion with a packet of six Pasties de Nara (aka Pasties de Belem) for us. Bruce was, by now, feeling a whole lot better and gratefully got stuck into them, while Geoff chose to enjoy a Cosmopolitan cocktail instead!

Late afternoon and it was time to set sail again, with a stunning setting to sail away from!

The last time we sailed away from Lisbon (in 2016), we encountered extremely high winds as soon as we left the port and had a very bad trip to Porto. Our sailing, on this occasion from Lisbon to Coimbra, could not have been more different, something for which we were very grateful.
