After two dullish days,
it was nice to wake up to blue skies and warm sunshine in
the port of Santa Cruz de la Palma. We were getting used
to early starts and as we only had a morning in port before
a twenty two hour sea crossing to Madeira, we wanted to
make the most of our time here. Once again, we had chosen
to spend more time walking than on a coach. |

We did things in a slightly
different order to the official programme. We went straight
to the Caldera de Taburiente National Park for our walk,
followed by an unscheduled visit to the site of the volanic
eruption eight months before. We then went to the viewing
point and visited the old farm for refreshments, before
stopping to see the small church on the way back to the
ship. |

After our lovely walk,
we were driven a short distance south for an unscheduled
visit to the site of the dramatic volcanic eruption in September
2021, which had devastating consequences for everything
in its path. |

Our final
stop was at the church. A service was just coming to an end as we
arrived. |

We returned
to the ship for lunch. The ice cream they serve is always delicious! |

During
lunch and with clouds beginning to build, we left the Canary Islands
for the longish crossing to Madeira. |
