At Sea between Porto
Santo and Lisbon
The sea was calm overnight
and all day today; exactly what you hope for on a sea day.
We enjoyed our lazy day very much, as we gazed out looking
for whales and dolphins inbetween eating, drinking and socialising.
There
was time for a leisurely, indulgent breakfast... |
...before
some more gazing out to sea... |
...then
some photo taking to remind us of the interior of the ship... |
...followed
by a few laps around the deck... |
...and
some more staring at the sea... |
...before
mid-morning coffee in the club lounge. |
A pre-lunch
snooze for Bruce on our balcony... |
...before
Geoff went out on the back deck to learn how to use a sextant from
Rear Admiral Roy. |
Time
for lunch, although it was far too nice a day to go to the inside
restaurant. |
After a pre-lunch
drink in the club lounge... |
...we lunched outside,
starting with a seafood salad. |
A main course, comprising
a tuna and prawn brochette, spinach and feta chickpea pancake
and a tomato and onion chutney. |
Bruce had the steamed
white chocolate sponge with orange custard (no picture unfortunately),
while Geoff opted for the selection of cheeses instead. |
This was followed by
some more looking out to sea, as we both struggled to stay
awake... |
...before it was time
to revive ourselves with afternoon tea, including the speciality
of the day, "Bananas Foster". |
Bananas Foster is a
dessert made from bananas and vanilla ice cream, with a
sauce made from butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, dark rum,
and banana liqueur. The butter, sugar and bananas are cooked,
and then alcohol is added and ignited. The bananas and sauce
are then served over the ice cream. |
Just
in case that wasn't enough, there was a selection of other treats
to tempt us. |
Yet more
contemplation of the sea... some dolphins had been spotted, but
we didn't capture them on camera. |
Pre-dinner
drinks and canapes... |
...followed by dinner,
once again outside. We were joined for dinner by Gareth
and Margaret, who we had sailed with in 2011 around the
Baltic. |
They recognised us and
it took a while to figure out where we had met, but once
we did, we even managed to find this photo of them from
that trip. |
Over
dinner, the sun set. It was quite magical. |
At our table, in addition
to Gareth and Margaret, were Simon and Susan. By coincidence
we had also met them previously. This was on our Andalucian
Odyssey five months previously. |
A final
image as the sky began to darken. Tomorrow we would be in Lisbon. |
