Day 4: The West: Stykkishólmur,
Breiðafjörður
Exploring the port town of Stykkishólmur
in the morning, then a long
coach excursion around the Snæfellsnes Peninsula
in the afternoon.

Approach
to the port early in the morning. |
We were
told that it was a small port, requiring excellent navigation skills. |
Our captain's
parking skills were excellent! |
We attended the introductory
briefing. We decided not to join the guided stroll to Sugandisey
Island, deciding instead to explore the port area and to
look for the "futuristic" church on the hill,
before going across to the island by ourselves later. |
The town
seemed to be welcoming. We liked the rainbow flag. |
Our ship
on the left, with Sugandisey in the centre. |
The church
looked interesting. We decided to go and take a look. |

We walked
back to the picturesque port... |
...and
then decided to go across to the island and climb up to where we
could see people. |
The views
from the top made the climb worthwhile. |

Lunch was served very
early. Geoff decided not to join the five and a half hour
afternoon excursion, so Bruce went on his own. This is the
route that he was taken on, in an anti-clockwise direction. |
The scenery
was wonderful. I wish we could have stopped more often, but we had
quite some distance to cover. |
This
was our first stop. |

of the country. |
