The following day, we strolled round Downtown,
admiring the new and not-so-new buildings.
We then took
a trolleybus to Stanley Park. There are a lot of apartments
built on the waterfront nearby.
We walked along the sea wall around
the Park, seeing the Vancouver Centre and many seaplanes...
...as well as the suphur ships and
Lions Gate Bridge.
Near the bridge, there is a sculpture, "Girl
in a Wetsuit", a gentle pastiche of Copenhagen's mermaid.
And nearby there were some totem
poles.
The Park also contains an aquarium. It is well
laid out with many interesting fish, but we were captivated
by the beluga whales....
...sea otters
... the sealions - the male was gigantic!...
...and dolphins.
Having seen all these wonderful creatures fed,
we decided it was time for our lunch.
We then walked all the
way south to the George Wainborn Park, from where we took
the tiny ferry across False Creek to Granville Island.
Granville Island is famous for its Public Market.
The food displays were very attractive...
...perhaps a little too attractive?
We bought some cherries (that's
all, honest!) and returned to the hotel. We found out later
that today had been the hottest day in Vancouver this year
and that the temperature had risen to 33°C No wonder we
were tired after all the walking we had done.
