On July 7th, Bruce's birthday, we continued
our exploration of the local area. We first went to see the
hoodoos, sandstone spikes created by erosion. |
|
|
|
Then we drove to Lake Minnewanka and took a
walk along the lakeside to Stewart Canyon |
|
|
...where there were more beautiful wild flowers! |

After lunch in the town centre, we drove to
the Vermillion Lakes |
|
|
|
We then went to the Cave
and Basin National Historic Site where there was a hot spring
inside the cave and a pool outside (The Basin) which contains
a very rare species of snail, Physella johnsonii, which
is no bigger than 5mm. We actually saw some of them! |

That evening, we ate in the hotel's posh restaurant,
the "Banffshire Club". The food was outstanding
and we enjoyed the evening very much, despite having to consider
arranging a quick remortgage of the house when the bill arrived.
Below, us on the hotel patio ready for our meal, and Bruce
with his pressies, including (of course!) chocolate. |
