Day 1: We fly to Dubai en-route to India
|

A lunchtime departure from Heathrow
to Dubai
on the first leg of our journey to Chennai.

We were flying with
Emirates for the first time and had high expectations. We
were not to be disappointed, starting with the excellent
lounge at Heathrow's Terminal 3. |
|
|
|
| |
We were expecting to
have a good lunch on the plane and didn't want to spoil
it by eating too much in the lounge beforehand. We therefore
declined these tasty looking pies, which had also lost their
immediate appeal by being labelled as "chicken and
leak". |
|
|
| |
 |
|
| |
|
| |
We had excellent views
of the southern runway. Geoff spotted this British Airways
Airbus A319, with its retro British European Airways (BEA)
livery. |
|
|
| |
We got really good views
of the Airbus A380 that would be taking us to Dubai as it
landed, taxied and parked right in front of us. |

We were impressed that
we were able to board the plane straight from the lounge.
What a treat! |

Lunch on board was exceptional.
It looked beautiful and tasted delicious. |

After lunch, mattresses
were provided for passengers wishing to rest. We both managed
a couple of hours of sleep, and before long, we were informed
of our imminent arrival in Dubai. Upon landing, we breezed
through security and took a brief train ride to the adjacent
terminal where our connecting flight to Chennai was scheduled
to depart in under two hours. We settled into the lounge
for about an hour of comfort before making our way to the
gate, where we boarded the Boeing 777-300 effortlessly—no
queues, no delays. By then, it was nearly 3:00 a.m. local
time, and the journey to Chennai would take approximately
three and a half hours. |

|
| |
|
| |
After take-off we both
decided that we should try to rest, so we declined the offer
of the meal and actually managed to get another couple of
hours of good sleep. |
