We fly to EuroAirport and enter France,
then take a train to Strasbourg.

Tuesday 10th September 2024

Our flight was at 8:20am, so we stayed at the Sofitel at Heathrow the night before, which made it easy and stress-free to be there in good time. Our first photo of the day - pushing back from T5.

Yes, it was early, but it is never too early for a glass of champagne!

Descending over eastern France toward the Euroairport, on French territory, but serving Basel (Switzerland), Mulhouse (France) and Freiburg (Germany).

After landing, we passed through border controls (managed by France), before collecting our luggage and leaving via the French exit. (The is a separate exit for entry into Switzerland, but passengers destined for Germany have to pass through France or Switzerland). A short bus trip from the airport and we arrived at Saint Louis station, from where we would get a train to Strasbourg.

We bought second-class tickets at the station. The train wasn't crowded and we enjoyed the 1 hour and 10 minute journey to Strasbourg, arriving there just after 1:30pm.

We decided to walk from the station to our hotel, because it was an easily walkable distance of around 1km. We hadn't reckoned on the uneven cobbled streets though, which made dragging our luggage a little more difficult than anticipated.
Our hotel, the four star Le Bouclier D'or. It was too early to get into our room, but we were able to leave our suitcases at the reception before taking a walk to see where we could have a light lunch.

It didn't take long to find a place with a lovely view for lunch.

After lunch, we went for an aimless stroll. It seems that security is taken seriously here!

At 3:30pm, we were able to get into our room. It was spacious and looked comfortable.

A late afternoon walk to enjoy the sunshine. The forecast for tomorrow wasn't brilliant, so we needed to make the most of the good weather while it lasted.

We chose this restaurant for dinner.

We both had the foie gras (left) to start. Geoff wisely chose scallops (right) as his main course...

...whereas Bruce's duck dish, delicious as it was, was far too much and he only managed to eat half of it.

Deconstructed tarte au Citron for dessert. It was delicious!

A late night drink at the hotel before heading off to bed.
