Day 1: Flying to Montreal
A comfortable flight from Heathrow
to Montreal,
followed by a rapid transfer to our hotel for a
late night check in.
Our flight was due to
depart at 6:15pm, but got delayed by an hour and a half.
We had hoped to take off at 6:15pm in time to see the sun
setting (at 6:45pm), but it wasn't to be. Instead, it was
dark and raining when we finally boarded our plane. Nevertheless,
we were lucky enough to be on the only Boeing 787-8 series
plane which had been retro-fitted with the new business
class "suite". Compared with the older version,
this is a great improvement and although we couldn't get
two adjacent seats in the middle, we were very comfortably
seated in window seats behind one another. |
We couldn't fault the
experience. The crew were incredibly friendly and we really
enjoyed the food, drink and the overall service provided. |
Geoff chose the roasted
artichoke soup as his starter... |
...whereas Bruce went
for the chicken caesar salad. |
Geoff's main course
- Cornish chicken. Bruce had the lamb curry, but was so
keen to tuck in that he didn't take a photo. |
Ninety minutes later
than scheduled, we arrived at Montreal airport. We were
lucky that there were no queues for border or customs formalities,
although our luggage was a bit slow to arrive. |
We were amused by the
"canine relief area" at the airport. We'd never
seen anything like it before! |
We caught a taxi from
the airport to the Le Centre Sheraton Hotel. There was very
little traffic so it didn't take long. The reception area
was quiet and we were quickly checked in. |
It was almost midnight
before we finally got into our room on the 26th floor. We
were happy with the size of the room and the comfortable
looking beds. |
The bathroom was massive! |
Our room was on a corner,
so we had wonderful views in two directions. |
We didn't even unpack
properly before getting into bed, reminding ourselves that
it was then 5:00am UK time! |
