October 2024: Autumn in Maritime Canada & New England

1st - 16th October 2024

We booked this trip in December 2022, as soon as we saw it advertised, mainly because it was a region that we hadn't visited and had long wanted to visit, but also because it was on a ship that we knew of and had seen good reviews about.

From the outset, we decided that we wanted to spend more time in the cities at the beginning and end of the official tour and so booked our own flights to Montreal and back from Boston in order to give ourselves maximum flexibility. In the end we stayed for one additional night in Montreal and for two extra nights in Boston. In both cities, we chose to stay at the same hotels used by the group so that we didn't have to change hotels.

The ship was wonderful and we loved everything we saw and experienced en-route. There were, however a few changes to the itinerary due to various factors, which were slightly disappointing. Also, our return journey from Boston was a rather tiring "adventure", but overall it was another very enjoyable holiday.

This was our intended route, as published in the brochure.

This is the actual route we followed (click on it for a larger image). Our ship did not have the correct clearances to enter the USA and so, after leaving Halifax, Nova Scotia, we made an unscheduled diversion to Saint John, New Brunswick, where we had to disembark and fly to Boston on a specially chartered plane. We therefore missed the planned excursion from Portland but instead saw some additional sights in Saint John.
