Ushuaia:
Rain... coffee & cake... more rain, then time to
sail!

What a difference a day makes. Yesterday's
sunshine had been replaced by heavy clouds and equally
heavy rain.
The hotel arranged for a car to take me into town. I had
to drop off my baggage at 11:00 a.m. but I couldn't board
the ship until 4:00 p.m. which meant five hours to kill
in town. Oh well, I was quite used to being patient on
this holiday.

Once
in town, it was reassuring to see that my ship was in the port. |
So near,
yet so far! I still had four hours to wait before I could embark. |

My cabin
is highlighted in this photo. |

I found shelter from
the driving rain in this cafe. The place wasn't busy and
the cafe owner was very pleasant. She was quite happy for
me to sit there as long as I liked, for which I was grateful. |
I enjoyed the coffee
and the absolutely huge piece of cake! |
I bought a box of their
artisan chocolates to eat over the next 31 days on the ship...
or the next 14 days anyway... okay, lets just say that I
didn't plan on eating them all today! |
Another
walk in the rain, which had eased slightly... and to make sure that
the ship was still there, haha! |
The rain didn't ease
for long! I had to dash into a shop, where I bought a brilliant
red rain jacket, after which I took refuge in the tourist
office for two hours. |
4 o'clock finally! The
entrance to the port was directly across the road from the
tourist office. I was expecting to have to show my passport,
go through security etc. Instead, absolutely nothing! I
walked in the door, through the building and onto the pier
without being challenged. |
If I was slightly damp
before, I got even more wet walking to the ship. Furthermore,
there was a huge puddle that I didn't see and stepped into
it up to my ankles! Nevertheless, comfort, warmth and security
were only a few more steps away and I was very excited! |
