Deception Island
is an active volcano - thankfully quiet during our visit! |

Looking back towards
Neptune's Bellows from within Whalers Bay. |

I was still suffering
with that cough and sore throat. Furthermore, I had by now
lost my voice, which Derek was probably quite thankful for!
I therefore decided to stay on the ship, soak up the atmosphere
of the location and content myself with taking photos of
the dramatic scenery. Derek was tasked with getting photos
ashore to show me what I had missed. |

The brave (foolhardy?)

Heading back out
of Port Foster the same way we had come in - via Neptune's Bellows. |
Leaving Deception
Island in our wake, we headed towards our final landing point for
this trip. |
Livingston Island
(I think) |
Unusually, there
were a couple of ships here before us and a few other visitors. |
Half Moon Island was
to be our last landing of the trip and I wasn't going to
miss it for anything. |

Depite following
the designated route, the snow was deep and it wasn't unusual to
sink in up to the knee! |
This seal looked
placid, but was strategically positioned in a narrow path. We were
cautioned to walk quietly past him, in single file. Luckily, he
didn't seem to be too interested in us. |

There were Chinstrap
penguins everywhere. |

The expedition teams
gathers for their last trip back to the ship for this expedition.
The last passengers had already returned. |
One member of the
team was clearly exhausted. They had all worked incredibly hard. |
