Back to Buenos Aires:
Ushuaia to Pilar
The wind, which was absent
yesterday, was very much in evidence this morning, and
there was a lot of dust.
On the way to the airport,
Jim was very excited see a condor. I got a quick clip
of it, but it actually came much closer and we all got
really good views of it.

(continuing a familiar theme in Argentina)
...and continuing another
familiar theme, our flight was delayed by two hours! We
had plenty of time to get used to the departure lounge. |
I was just pleased
that our plane arrived and we were able to depart, late or not! |
Shortly after taking
off from Ushuaia, we got good views of the mountains and the Beagle
Channel. |
At 3 hours and 20 minutes,
this was the longest internal flight we took. The time passed
quite quickly, I thought. As we approached Buenos Aires,
it was good to see lots of activity and a landscape that
looked more like what I was used to. The antarctic and sub-antarctic
regions are wonderful and beautiful, but there are good
reasons why few humans can thrive there! |
As we stepped off
the plane in Buenos Aires, the warm sunshine was most welcome. |
It took almost an hour
and a half on a coach from the airport to reach our out
of town hotel in Pilar. Another consequence of the G20 summit
meant that the central part of the city was deemed too difficult
to venture into (even though the summit had actually ended
yesterday). Nevertheless, we loved the quiet location and
the newly opened hotel was a treat. |

I loved our room. |
Derek and I were keen
to get out and walk in the sunshine, after several weeks
of wrapping up! The hotel grounds are part of a golf estate,
so there is plenty of space. There was also an abundance
of birdlife. We both enjoyed the opportunity to take more
photos as we walked. |
Burrowing owls were
very close to the hotel and, although wary of people, didn't seem
to mind us too much. |

Dinner at the hotel
was included (another bonus because of the itinerary changes). It
was varied and delicious. |

What a contrast today
had been. From a cool and dusty start in Ushuaia to a perfect,
warm end to the day near Buenos Aires. One more night's
sleep and I would be on my way home. |
