This is as close as
I got to Port Lockroy. I was suffering from a sore throat
and a cough (like many others on the ship) and I wanted
to conserve my energy for the possible landing at "Base
Brown" this afternoon. As we were anchored very close
to the island, I got a good feel for the place nevertheless,
helped by seeing Derek's photos afterwards. |

I waved goodbye to
Derek as he set off, after which I drank coffee, ate biscuits and
admired the scenery. |

I'm sorry that I
missed the ice landing. It looked like a lot of fun! |

The ship's log says
it all. The Neumayer Channel is utterly exquisite. I was feeling
better already! |

I was feeling a bit
better this afternoon so I went ashore. It was a good decision. |

The climb up looked
a bit daunting and the snow was deep in places, but it was worth
the effort. |

At the top, we sat
in the snow and admired the views. |

A rare photo of Sue;

Peninsula Party!
- Luckily, nobody took any embarrassing photos of me, haha! |

We were definitely
amongst those who "simply couldn't bear to tear themselves
away". Wow! |

Another amazing day.
Tomorrow would be our last opportunity to go ashore.
It was all coming to an end far too quickly! |
