The wind was quite...
invigorating! |

I came across the above
text whilst doing some research about South Georgia. Looking
at the photos afterwards, it does seem to describe the place
perfectly. |

A rare sight... another
ship! |
At this point, we seemed
to be almost at the Drygalski Fjord, but then we turned
and began heading back the way we had come. We were soon
to find out that we were going towards Gold Harbour. |
Gold Harbour. We were
in the group that landed first. We went ashore on the far
right hand side of this picure and later cruised slowly
along the shoreline to where the waterfall is on the left,
before returning to the ship. |

I have probably included
far too many photos from today, but as I love every one
of them and I doubt very much whether I shall be coming
this way again, I want to be able to remember everything
I possibly can. If I thought that Salisbury Plain and Prion
Island were amazing, today was even better! I find it difficult
to put my feelings into words, but the pictures will hopefully
tell their own story. |

We came ashore at
the only small spot that wasn't completely packed with the local
wildlife... |
...but even here,
it wasn't exactly devoid of life! |

The Snowy Sheathbill
looks cute and comical, but it eats anything and everything and
is, I suspect, quite vicious! |

After our shore visit,
it was time to give others a chance too and so we got back on the
zodiac for our cruise. |
The view from the
zodiac was just as good as being on the shore itself. |
Beautiful Cape Petrels,
feeding close to the shore. |
We saw some giant
petrels feasting on something ashore... |
...before flying
into the water to clean their bloody beaks and bodies! |
We cruised past the
glacier and got close to the waterfall... |
...before heading
back to the ship. What an afternoon! |
Just when we thought
we had seen it all, we had one final treat in store.
Drygalski Fjord and whales! |

After all the excitement
of today, we had a couple of days at sea to look forward to.
Time to reflect on a magical time here in South Georgia. |
