Sado Island,
home to the rare Crested Ibis
Sado
Island is not far off the coast, so we had a slow, easy overnight
voyage to the port of Ogi. |
We received
a tradional Sado Island welcome. |

We were privileged to
see a Crested Ibis (Nipponia nippon), also known as Toki.
There are only 150 birds in the world, so it felt especially
good to see one. |

We visited
the crested ibis conservation centre... |
...where
we saw two chicks, which had been bred in captivity. |
After
lunch we joined the excursion to the historical Shukunegi village. |

Tarai-bune
(a bit like a coracle). |

Afterwards,
we went to the Ogi Folkloric Museum |
Later,
we were treated to a lovely sail away ceremony. |
