We arrived at the station in good time to
catch the 15:56 train to Niigata. Geoff was very happy to
see lots of trains. |

Our train arrived about
five minutes before the departure time. Being the end of
the line, the train had to be cleaned before we could board.
Before the cleaners began their work, the seats were all
rotated automatically to face the direction of travel. The
small band of cleaners did their job with military precision
and finished in under four minutes. After quite a lot of
bowing, they left the train and we embarked. |

The journey time of
2 hours and 2 minutes passed quickly as we flashed past
some beautiful scenery. Geoff was in his element. |

Our bags were waiting for us. They had been transported by road
from our hotel in Tokyo. |
