Second day in St Petersburg:
A visit to Peterhof palace and gardens
Programme (1) for 15th July 2011
Programme (2) for 15th July 2011
Our second day in St Petersburg
dawned overcast, later turning to rain,
but this didn't spoil our excursion to the amazing palace
and gardens of Peterhof,
situated about 30 kms west of the city, on the Gulf of Finland.
On the journey there and back, we were quite impressed with
the state of the roads,
much improved since our last visit in 1997, although the
traffic congestion was still significant.
Since 1997, there has been
a lot of development along this route, not all of it inspiring.
Please excuse the quality
of the recording in this video, but there was some stirring
music!
Mariinsky Theatre
Back on board, this smaller
ship had pulled up alongside us and appeared to be removing
our waste... nice!
Some of our fellow passengers
went to the ballet that evening.
We decided to drink Bruce's birthday champagne instead!
