Day 3 - Passage to South Georgia

Wednesday 29th March 2023
Another calm day at sea. How long could our luck last? I felt quite rested after yesterday's full day at sea, so I did quite a bit of walking around the decks and spent time up on the Bridge, which was open to passengers most of the time.

Yesterday it was reported that seven snowy sheathbills had been circling the ship for a long time and many people were curious about why they didn't land and hitch a ride. Today, two of them did and seemed quite unconcerned about me talking photos of them.

During lunch, which was always served buffet-style, we would be given a menu for the evening meal and asked to give our preferences for the choices on offer. No names or table numbers were recorded, but it gave the chef an indication of how many of each dish to prepare in order not to have too much wastage. I thought that was a really good idea.

Yes, I appreciated the ice cream offered and served by the expedition team in the lounge! Afterwards, I went up to the Bridge and got some wonderful views, the best on the ship, in my opinion. There was always a member of the expedition team there to answer questions or to help with wildlife spotting. Strangely, not too many passengers ventured up there. I think it was because taking good photos wasn't possible through the glass, so it was mainly the people without cameras that spent time there.

My virtual companion, William Bear, certainly enjoyed his time on the Bridge...
...not to mention sitting in a zodiac, hoping to be first ashore when the call came!

I just loved these dramatic views, especially at this latitude.
