We say goodbye to Hue
and fly to Ho Chi Minh City

Our stay in Hue at this
lovely hotel had come to an end and it was time to move
on today.
The bill looked rather
scary at first, but after doing a quick calculation, we
decided that at around a hundred and forty pounds, for
the two wonderful meals in the restaurant, it wasn't bad.
Very expensive by Vietnam standards, but a bargain when
compared with London prices!

It was only a short drive
to Hue's small airport, so small, in fact that there no
planes on the tarmac when we arrived and we seemed to
be the only people checking in! It all felt very relaxed
until we attempted to go through security, when Geoff's
kitchen implements, acquired in Hoi An a few days previously
and packed into his hand luggage, caused alarm bells to
go off! Luckily there was plenty of time to back track
and to check them in, rather than see them confiscated.

We say goodbye to
our excellent guide, Tien. |

A plane arrives.
As it is the only plane at the airport, we assume it will be soon
be ours! |

It was... this was

Ho Chi Minh City's airport,
in stark contrast to Hue's airport, was very busy indeed
and it took some time before we had disembarked and retrieved
our luggage. Once done, however, we were quickly met by
a new guide and driver and taken to our trendy hotel in
Saigon. Somehow, we had been upgraded to the executive floor
of the hotel, which entitled us to a range of perks. We
arrived in time for the first of these, "high tea"
and later, we enjoyed the complimentary evening cocktails
too! |

Bruce hadn't been feeling
that brilliant for a couple of days, so he was quite happy
to settle in and have a relaxing evening in the hotel. We
were supposed to be going on the "Vespa Tour"
of Saigon, visiting various restaurants. Initially, Geoff
decided to go on his own, but when it came time to go, however,
he changed his mind and kept Bruce company instead. We dined
at the restaurant on the top floor of the hotel, but weren't
that impressed with it. It seemed to be more of a bar/nightclub
with food being of secondary importance. |
