A relaxing and scenic
train journey to Edinburgh

Saturday 18th July 2015 (morning)

Our holiday began at King's Cross
station... |
...where we were in good time to
catch the 10:30 a.m. train to Edinburgh... |
... and could therefore admire the
station's amazing architecture at our leisure. |
After about two and a half hours, we arrived at
Darlington
station, which is a Grade II listed Victorian structure with some
interesting features, such as the ones below.
We were very happy with our spacious carriage
and our comfortable seats. This definitely beats flying, we thought...
...and the beautiful scenery en-route was an added bonus!
Durham |
The bridges of Newcastle-upon-Tyne,
as we approached the station. |

Leaving Newcastle |
There were some stunning views of
the coastline between Newcastle and Berwick |
Berwick-upon-Tweed |
Ayton Castle - we had clearly missed the "Welcome to Scotland"
sign, but we were definitely in Scotland now!
Our B&B, called 14 Hart Street,
was a short walk from Edinburgh station. We were given a
warm welcome by the hosts, James and Angela and shown to
our room, which looked very comfortable. There was even
a decanter of whisky in the room! There was no time to sample
it, however, because Anne and John were due to arrive very
soon to take us out and show us the sights of their city. |
