Venice - Day 3
A visit to Burano and an extended return cruise
Tuesday 11th November
2025

It was another beautiful
day, so we decided to visit the island of Burano. First
we needed to walk from the hotel to the pier at Fondamente
Nove, the closest vaporetto stop. |
| |
Initially we thought
we could walk quite close to the edge of the lagoon to get
to the pier at Fondamente Nove, but soon discovered that
we had to walk away from the lagoon in order to cross the
Rio de la Guerra canal. |

Ponte Racheta). |

A passageway just beyond

A view of San Michele
cemetery from Fondamente Nove. |
| |
| |
It turned out to be
a fairly long vaporetto ride from Fondamente Nove to Burano.
When we visited Murano, Burano and Torcello in 1993, we
remembered Murano and Burano being very close together,
so it came as a surprise to discover that they actually
aren’t. |
| |
Our memories of Burano
hadn't faded that much and we liked it just as much this
time as we had 32 years ago. |
| |
| |
The oh-so-trendy Dubai
chocolate of today would definitely not have been on sale
the last time we visited. We loved the fact that it had
been Italianised in the form of gelato! |
| |
We enjoyed wandering
a bit aimlessly, enjoying the sunshine and the vibrant colours
of all the buildings. |

| |
By mid morning, we were
all in the mood for a some coffee, so we stopped here. |
| |
From our table, we could
look out across the lagoon towards Venice in the distance. |
| |
| |
We could easily have
spent more time on the island, but Edith and Gregor seemed
keen to continue our sightseeing experience elsewhere, so
we made our way slowly back to the vaporetto stop. |
| |
| |
| |
| |
There was a bit of confusion
about which vaporetto to take back, as two were bound for
St. Mark’s Square. One was packed and the other fairly
empty, so we chose the quieter option. Only after setting
off did we realise it took a longer route via Punta Sabbioni
and the Lido, but that hardly mattered given how scenic
it was. |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
The first stop was at
Punta Sabbioni. |
| |
After a brief stop,
we set off for our next stop at the Lido, passing the entrance
to the Venice Lagoon along the way. |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
Our second stop was at
the Lido. |
| |
| |
From the Lido, it was
a short trip to the final stop close to St. Mark's Square. |

| |
| |
After disembarking,
Geoff captured one of the classic Venice photos looking
across to San Giorgio Maggiore. |
| |
We parted company with
Edith & Gregor at this point after agreeing a time to
meet for dinner. We decided to continue our exploration
of the city on foot, whereas they were planning to take
another vaporetto. |
| |
| |
We stopped for a drink
in Campo Sant' Anzolo. |
| |

| |
| |
As we approached our
hotel, we walked past Osteria Anice Stellato (left), the
restaurant that Edith & Gregor had booked for our evening
meal. |
| |
It looked more inviting
by night and the food was excellent. |
