On Wednesday March 3rd, we flew to Johannesburg, where
we were met by Bruce's Dad to take us to his home town
of Benoni. We were delighted to see his homecoming so
widely celebrated with banners all over the place saying
"Welcome home!" Imagine Bruce's disappointment
when we found it was for some local girl done good in
Hollywood. Who is Charlize Theron anyway?
We did not do much sightseeing in Benoni, but Bruce's
family have been very kind and hospitable, and we spent
most of the time eating and drinking with one family member
or another. So much for the diet...

There were two highlights: on Friday,
5th March, Bruce's Mom had arranged for us to go to The
Blue
Crane Restaurant, where there is a lake full of rare
birds, which you can watch from hides. Unfortunately, it
poured with rain and the only bird we saw was the chicken
on our plates... |
And on Sunday, we went to the Vaal Dam to see Linda and
Jimmy's new holiday house, bakkie and boat. |

|
We had a lot of fun. There was, of course, the South African
meat-fest: a braai! |

On Saturday, we visited
Bruce's ex-colleagues and friends, Marina and Dirk at their
lovely home. |

A last image of (almost)
all of the family... |
