It was another gorgeous
day, just like every other day of our holiday. Sadly, it
was time to go home. All packed and ready, we took time
to have one last look across the harbour. |

Sitting on our little
buses once again, the captain and some of the crew were
out to wave us goodbye. In a couple of hours time, as we
were due to fly back home, the ship would set sail for South
America for the start of the Antarctic season. Only the
crew would be sailing. We could imagine all the maintenance
and cleaning that would be done during the crossing! |

Leaving
the port for the last time. |
Less
than 15 minutes later, we were at the airport. |
Bruce
took a few photos of the airport itself, because he is due to fly
from here again at the end of April 2023. |
We were the only travellers
at the airport, but we were delayed for 30 minutes at passport
control because the computers had failed! With no sign of
the problem being fixed anytime soon, the officials decided
to revert to manual procedures, which meant that they had
to write down all our passport details and it was a very
slow process. |
Another delay. Our plane
hadn't arrived. We were told that, for operational reasons,
it had to fly to Praia via Sal Island, meaning that it would
be approximately 30 minutes late. The good thing was that
Bruce was able to film it arriving. |
There were no passengers
to disembark so it wasn't long after landing that we were
able to board the Boeing 737-800 for our return flight to
Gatwick. |
We got
some lovely views of the island as we departed. |
Twenty or thirty minutes
after take-off, we got an amazing view of the whole of Ilha
do Sal, where we had begun our holiday. |
Despite
being at cruising altitude, we could see Sal Airport's runway quite
clearly... |
...and
also the salt pans we had visited. |
After
about an hour, we got some more stunning views... this time of La
Gomera. |
Finally, a gorgeous
sunset. The remainder of our six hour flight was in darkness.
The food on board was better than what we were served on
the way out and the crew were all very pleasant. We weren't
looking forward to the rather long flight very much, but
being a special charter with only 90 or so passengers in
a plane that can accommodate many more, certainly helped.
We also appreciated that it was a direct flight. These aren't
easy to find between Cape Verde and the UK. |

For Bruce, this was
his favourite holiday of the year. Geoff may have enjoyed
the Italian Islands more, but he also enjoyed this one very
much. |
