After the excitement of meeting so many former classmates, a few days away, to a new (for me) and beautiful destination, Clarens, seemed like a perfect break. I travelled there with Mom, Jackie and Ann, Mom's half-sister. It was lovely to have some time to get to know Ann. I last saw her when I was around nine years old!

Our home for the next few days. Calm, quiet, bliss.

An excellent meal at a local restaurant. Thank you for the treat, Ann!

The view from the restaurant.

Back at the house, our stay would be dominated by a very friendly visiting cat!

Shopping in Clarens
There were few bargains to be had, though, according to Jackie.

On our second full day, we set off in the car for the short drive into the Golden Gate Highlands National Park.

We couldn't believe how quiet it was, or that none of us had ever visited here before. What a wonderful place!

Ann and I went into the hide. Mom and Jackie chose to stay in the car.

Seeing dead cows rotting in the sun was slightly disturbing. There wasn't a vulture in sight.

We drove back to Clarens for a late lunch, which was excellent.

All too soon, it was time to leave. Here is the last glimpse we got of the unusual rock formations in the area.
