After a pleasant flight from Johannesburg I was picked up at
George Airport by Cilla and Jurie.
Jurie drove us to the small coastal town of Witsand, approximately
200km from George.
We stopped for a late lunch en-route near Heidelberg, before driving
the last leg to their lovely home.
There, I was introduced to their
dog Fusion, who proved to be both lively and well-disciplined! |
In the late afternoon, we all took
a walk down the hiking trail to the jetty below. |
The next morning we took a leisurely
walk along the beautiful beach. |

We had an excellent lunch, joined
by Cilla's son Marcel and daughter-in-law Lize |
Later that afternoon, Cilla and
I went for a little tour of the local area |

The next day, I was treated to a
real adventure; a trip up the Breede River in a small boat. |
It was exhilirating to feel the
speed of the boat, especially as the first twenty minutes was in
the rain! We got soaked, but I loved it! |
Jurie made a technical stop at the
Bush Pub. |

This little village along the west
bank of the river is called Riverine |

Further along, we passed some lovely
looking homes |

This photo was taken when we got
back to Witsand, looking back upstream. |
At Witsand, the Breede river meets
the Indian Ocean. |

The transition from river to sea
is tricky and should only be attempted by experienced sailors.
Today, however, conditions were very calm and it would have been
relatively easy to get beyond the breakers, had we wanted to do
so.
After the morning's excitement,
we had a quiet afternoon, but later we did a driving tour of old
Witsand. |

The next day was gorgeous - sunny
and warm and we were going on a road tour! |
Poor Fusion - He just knew he was going to be
left at home alone! |
Our first stop was down a track
to the Korenterivier Dam. We had the place and the views to ourselves.
It was perfect! |

A pause to check out some of the
wildlife: Note the two buck, perched on the rocks on the left. |

As we headed towards the mountain
pass, we passed miles of fynbos. Once again, there was nobody else
in sight. |

Lunch was a very relaxed affair
and it was delicious. We really enjoyed the wine too! |

After lunch we went through some
more lovely scenery en-route to Swellendam. |

A brief stop in Swellendam. We had
intended to have afternoon tea then, but it was too late,
so we just stopped to check out the shop belonging to a friend of
a friend. We were impressed! |
We stopped for petrol (and a bit
of silliness!) at a service station exactly half way between Cape
Town and George! |

Thank you so much Cilla & Jurie
for your hospitality and kindness. I had an amazing time!
Also, a special thank you to Cilla for some of the
photos. |
