From Stirling, we drove to our next hotel in Bamburgh via Falkirk and the new Millennium Falkirk Wheel - a canal boat lift 60' high: amazing!

Then on to Edinburgh for lunch in Princes Street. In the open air. In the warm. In October!

Later, we arrived at Bamburgh for our stay at this hotel.
The elegant Georgian exterior cannot prepare you for the delights within...

We have two short videos, taken inside the "Swans" room. Remember to turn on the sound.

Bamburgh itself is a delight. A pretty village, a massive castle and a wide sandy beach that goes on for miles and miles... and not another soul in sight. Eat your heart out Durban!

From Bamburgh, we toured Northumbria and in particular Cragside, an Edwardian country house, now owned by the National Trust, one of its claims to fame being it was the first house in the country to be lit by electricity.
Cragside

We also went on a boat trip to the Farne Isles (forgetting to take the camera!) where we saw seals and sea birds in their hundreds, and later that day drove to Lindisfarne across the causeway which is flooded by the sea at high tide.
