August / September 2011: Two visits to South Africa

Bruce arrived in South Africa on 31st August for a twelve-day visit. Although he and Geoff had been there earlier in the year, in March, this trip was arranged at relatively short notice. Bruce wanted to help his father, Jack, move into a retirement home, a decision Dad had firmly made for himself. While other family members were available to handle most of the arrangements, Bruce felt it was important to be there as well.

The move went ahead as planned, and Bruce was able, for the most part, to relax and spend time catching up with the family. On 11th September, he flew back to London.

Sadly, not long afterwards, Dad suffered a stroke and died on 24th September. The following day, Bruce returned to South Africa, accompanied by Geoff. A memorial service was held on 29th September. Bruce and Geoff flew back to London on 3rd October.

Bruce flew back to London on 11th September, after spending quality time with the family.

Sadly, Dad died suddenly on 24th September and Bruce returned to South Africa, accompanied by Geoff, to be with the family at such a sad time. We arranged a memorial service to celebrate his life and many people came.

We stayed with Jackie until 3rd October before flying home. During this time, Slater had a birthday and we helped him celebrate it. Despite our sadness, this was a reminder that life goes on, children grow up and we need to make the most of the lives we have.
